Public Schools

Pauls Valley Public Schools

Pauls Valley Public Schools offer a total education and provide a learning environment that gives each student the opportunity to become a productive citizen in our democratic society. We recognize that providing education designed to meet the needs of the individual is paramount. Pauls Valley Schools encourage all students to participate in extracurricular activities. Band, athletics, publications, Pi Phi Pi, Key Club, FFA, and FHA are just a few of those available to students.

Over ninety percent of Pauls Valley students graduate. More than half go on to attend institutions of higher education, which is twelve percent above the state average.

Beginning in kindergarten, computers are available to all students. Subjects such as language arts, reading, writing, math, and keyboarding are reinforced through the computer. Students also have the opportunity to further their skills in the Technical Education Lab.

The Pauls Valley School System has a total enrollment of 1,460 students. The district employs 195 faculty and support personnel. With an annual budget of $6,900,000, the per pupil expenditure is the highest in Garvin County.

Whitebead Public Schools

Whitebead offers a comprehensive curriculum made available to all students. The diverse needs of the student population are determined by a comprehensive system of needs analysis that involves students, parents, and staff. A blended services model, which promotes classroom community, is used to meet the demands of diverse students. Offerings include: small classes, looping in the first through sixth grades, multi-age classes in preschool through fourth grade, nine sports teams (72% participation), award winning visual and performing arts programs (68% participation in fifth through eighth grade), athletic and academic booster clubs, Spanish, French, student government, school service organizations, four academic teams (21% participation in fifth through eighth grade), service learning projects, School-To-Work Program, and a bilingual newsletter. All are important aspects of life at Whitebead School. Whitebead School is a caring community. It is not so much a place as an experience – the experience of feeling valued, connected and responsible to others. Whitebead School provides an environment rich in friendships and belonging, a “say” in shaping that environment and meaningful, important learning. In turn, because it meets their needs, Whitebead students care about school and take its values seriously. The best metaphor for Whitebead School comes from philosophy and theology, not business and industry. Whitebead has a “soul”, not just a culture, and has a deeper purpose than a profit margin. It is a sanctuary for children that provides a comforting, fulfilling and exciting work environment where children’s spirits can soar.

The mission of the Chamber is to advance the economic, civic and cultural growth of Pauls Valley and to enhance the quality of life in the community while fostering continuous improvements of Pauls Valley as a place in which to conduct today’s business.

Historical Society

The Pauls Valley Historical Society was chartered in 1978 to collect, preserve and exhibit, primarily the history of Pauls Valley and Garvin County, which was part of Indian Territory before Oklahoma became the 46th state in 1907. Historical Background “The Queen of the Washita” as the City of Pauls Valley was once known was one of the earliest settlements in Indian Territory. Smith Paul, born in 1809 in New Bern, North Carolina, lived with the Chickasaw Indians in Northwestern Mississippi for seventeen years. On a wagon train trip to California, Paul discovered the fertile bottom land which is now Pauls Valley.
